FAQs

Please note that your participation on the trip is not yet confirmed. Please read on for next steps.

If you didn’t yet upload your documentation, you must do so no later than Friday, January 30, 2026:

  1. SPARC Training (Sexual & Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course) dated between July 1, 2025 – Present.
  2. Off-Campus Trip Participation Form

Submitting your documents does not automatically confirm your participation.  Members of our staff will review each of your documents to ensure that they are complete and in order.

Once your materials have been reviewed and your SPARC certificate has been verified, our team will send you a confirmation email and a link to the mandatory pre-trip meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 6:00pm. You must register for that meeting and attend it in full.

Students are officially confirmed for the trip only after meeting all of the above stated requirements.

You should plan to arrive onsite at CUNY SPS at 5:30 am on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

CUNY SPS is located at 119 W. 31st Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues, in New York, NY 10001.

If you arrive after the scheduled bus departure (6:15 am), you will not be permitted to participate.

Once the bus departs, it will not return to CUNY SPS until the scheduled arrival time of 8:30 pm.

It is your responsibility to ensure you are back on the bus at the scheduled bus departure time of 3:30 pm.

Running late means you risk being left in Washington, DC.

Once the bus departs, it will not return to the Museum.

We are scheduled to arrive back at CUNY SPS at 8:30 pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

If we encounter extraordinary volume of traffic, our arrival time may be delayed.

Given the early departure time, and the evening arrival back in New York City, you may want to bring a pillow and/or blanket to take a nap on the bus.

You may also bring headphones, books, and personal snacks.

While the bus will be locked while we are the Museum, we don't recommend bringing anything valuable that you don't want to carry through the Museum.

The bus has not yet been confirmed, so restroom availability is unknown. Students are strongly encouraged to use the CUNY SPS facilities prior to departure.

CUNY SPS will provide a late lunch ordered through Chipotle. You can review the food options available on the Lunch Options page of this site.

Students are encouraged to bring their own food on the bus if they prefer not to wait until the late lunch at 4:30 PM. Please note that alcohol is not permitted on the bus or at any point during the trip.

Chipotle offers a variety of dietary-inclusive options, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and low-carb choices. No additional food vendors will be provided. Students may also choose to purchase food from the café located inside the museum; however, CUNY SPS will only cover the cost of the Chipotle meal and will not cover food purchased at the museum café.

In the event that the federal government is shut down on the scheduled day of the trip, we will notify you via email and/or phone that the trip is cancelled.

In the event of an emergency, students should contact one of the four chaperones accompanying the trip. Chaperone phone numbers will be shared on the day of the trip to allow for direct and immediate contact.

In the event that there is inclement weather forecast on the scheduled day of the trip, we will notify you via email and/or phone by 10:00pm the night before that the trip is cancelled.

No, there are no guests or plus ones permitted on this trip.

If you have a last minute childcare issue that prevents you from attending, please let us know by contacting: reshma.jaigobin@cuny.edu

The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in DC offers hearing accommodations like assistive listening devices, sign language interpreters (with advance notice), and captioned media.

The museum does not offer a coat check or bag storage. Students may leave large bags on the bus but should carry essential personal items - such as their ID and wallet - with them while inside the museum.

The museum has an on-site café offering cuisine rooted African American culture. Students are welcome to purchase food there at their own expense.

Students are not permitted to leave the museum or explore Washington, DC independently during the trip.
